More News About The 2017 Mille Miglia

A little more information is now available about the 2017 Mille Miglia.  A route map has been released which provides a little more information about the route and the towns that this rally passes through.  This route map is a little more helpful for those who want to watch the cars as they pass by.

2017 Mille Miglia Route Map

This year represents the 90th anniversary of the first Mille Miglia in 1927.  The rally will take place from Thursday May 18 to Sunday, May 21 2017.  The daily routes are shown on the map. While the entry requirements are stringent, interest in this event is always high.  Apparently 695 entries were submitted for the 440 available places in the rally.

The Mille Miglia Attracts Some Of The World’s Best Cars

From a competitive point of view, the number of time trials will increase to 112, plus 18 time controls in 7 average speed sections for a total of 130 scored controls..  Last year the number of time controls was in the order of 74 – 78.  This will make this year’s running more of a pressure cooker for the competitors.  More timed controls mean more opportunity for “screw-ups”, which might revive the hopes of teams who made an early “screw-up” as the top teams have more opportunity to “screw-up” in the later parts of the rally.

There Will Be More Timing Controls At This Year’s Mille Miglia

The Mille Miglia has been described as “the world’s most beautiful race” and that might be true.  From a competitive perspective, it is also a very difficult rally to break into the top 100 in the Overall standings.  The top teams are very experienced and they practice frequently.  The list of the accepted entries will soon be published and unfortunately many well qualified and deserving entries be among those who are not selected.

Are you going to dissect the route as you have done in the past? I’m going there to drive along

    • Hi Santo,
I am considering attempting to draw the route on a road map again, but it is difficult to be accurate with the route when starting from such a generalized map. I would not want to mislead anyone. I think that I can be close, but not necessarily be correct. I will let you know in a few days.

Thank you my friend….I’ll be looking forward to it

    • Hi Santo,
I have taken a shot at plotting the 2017 Mille Miglia route on my Michelin maps of Italy. These are quite large maps, as you can imagine in order to plot out a 1000-mile circuit. Is there a particular area that you are interested in? Or are you going to drive the entire route?

Hello Steve, we are also driving along the whole route. We are some old 911 drivers and want to follow this beautiful race. Do you know a detailed version of the route?
    Best Wishes

    • Hi Eduard,
I do not know, at this time, where you can get a detailed map of the route. I spent some time transferring the route, as best I could, onto paper Michelin maps of Italy using the published red line route map as shown on my website. I am uncertain as to the accuracy of my detailed route on the Michelin maps. You might want to try this method as well. It would be fun to drive the Mille Miglia route.
