Some Photos From The 2016 19 Capitales Historico

Paulo Ceretta sent me some photos from the 2016 19 Capitales Historico that is currently taking place in Uruguay.  Paulo Ceretta and his brother, Alejandro, are competing in their 1980 BMW 320.  Paulo sent these photos without any accompanying description, so I’ve had to speculate as to the content of the photos.

The photo below shows the Ceretta brothers in their rally car.

Paulo and Alejandro Ceretta

In the above photo, Alejandro is shown in the driver’s seat, but it is my understanding that in the 19 Capitales Historico, Paulo will be driving.

Three Similar BMWs

The point that jumped out for me in the above photo had nothing to do with the cars, but with the background.  As someone who lives in the northern part of the USA, in the late days of winter, the impact of this rally being in the southern hemisphere was clearly on display in this photo.  It is summer in Uruguay now, and looking at this photo, I realized how much that I am looking forward to the green of summer coming to the northeast USA.

A Mini and A Porsche

The Mini and the Porsche look like non-rally participants parked in some sort of parking area, but that is not clear.

I am not particularly knowledgeable on Hillman cars, but the car on display in the shopping area below, looks like a mid-1950s Hillman 2-door hardtop coupe.  The car is a left-hand drive car made for the overseas market.

I will have a post about the final standings in the 2016 19 Capitales Historico in the next few days.

    Hi Steve,
I am still following your site with iterest and can give you the ‘take’ from over The Pond.
The Minx is a fixed top coupe, a bit more utilitarian than the similar Rootes Motors Sunbeam Rapier which a was a favourite rallycar into the 1960’s (5th in the 1958 Alpine Rally)
