The Endurance Rally Association’s Trans-America rally is now under way. Yesterday the competitors left Halifax, Nova Scotia and spent the night in Moncton, New Brunswick. Today the cars’ rally route took them to Edmundston, New Brunswick. The competitors will end up on June 28 in San Francisco, California.
The 2015 Trans-America rally route is shown below. It looks like quite an interesting route.
2015 Trans-America Rally Route
On Thursday June 11 the competitors will be traveling from Quebec City to Old Forge, New York. Old Forge is located in the Adirondack Mountains area of New York and is very scenic. Years ago I rode my motorcycle through this area and I have some fond memories of the Adirondacks. I plan on driving up to Old Forge on June 11 to meet up with the rally cars. I hope to get there early enough to take some pictures of the rally cars as they approach Old Forge from the east on Route 28.

In particular, I look forward to meeting up with Michael Eatough who is competing in his 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230S sedan. This is Michael’s second Trans-America rally, as he competed in the first Trans-America rally in 2012.
One of the things that I look forward to seeing in Michael’s car is a new GaugePilot unit, which is a multi-purpose instrument that has very impressive rally navigation and timing capabilities.

With the exception of the Great Race, it is not often that a long distance marathon rally is relatively close to my home, so I cannot pass up the chance to see these rally cars up close and say “Hello!” to the rally competitors.
