The scores among the top teams are close and one major mistake could make a substantial difference in the standings.  The team of Maes/Deplancke have consistently been near the top of the standings and after today’s legs sit atop the field.  They are shown below in the Porsche.

It is interesting to me that the Opel Kadett in third place has Sebastien Chol as the navigator.  He is one of the commercial sources of prepared Route Books for this event, so it is obvious that he knows how to do well at this event.  Based on a comment from well-known navigator Fred Gallagher, I suggested to a fellow who wanted to buy a Route Book for the event that he get a prepared Route Book from Sebastien Chol.

The driver of the car currently in 10th place might be well known to many people who might read this post.  Daniel Elena is and has been the co-driver for Sebastien Loeb when they have won multiple World Rally Championships.  Daniel has competed in this rally before and has done very well.  The picture shows Daniel being interviewed in St. Agreve.

The picture from St. Agreve reminded me of the benefits of having a rally in France.  Being able to stop by for a quick glass of wine and some pastry is nice touch.
