Concentration Runs Are Now Finished In The 2015 Historique Monte Carlo Rallye

Yesterday all of the teams completed their concentration runs and competed in one timed regularity stage.  Today the remaining teams are all in Monaco and from Monaco, these teams will compete in four competitive regularity stages.  After the long day yesterday, I hope that they all got a good night’s sleep as the crews will have an early start as the first car is away at 6:00am.  During the day the teams will follow a course that is 539 kilometers long including the regularity stages.

With respect to distances, it is interesting to look at the distances that the teams had to travel in their concentration runs to Monaco, depending upon where the crews started from:

  • Barcelona – Monaco: 992 km
  • Glasgow – Monaco: 2140 km
  • Copenhagen – Monaco: 2261 km
  • Rheims – Monaco: 1098 km
  • Turin – Monaco: 786 km

For competition purposes the field is divided into Categories and then further subdivided into Classes.  There are four Categories of cars that are based on the ages of the cars:

I – cars built before 31/12/1961

II – cars built between 1/1/1962 and 31/12/1965

III – cars built between 1/1/1966 and 31/12/1971

IV – cars built between 1/1/1972 et le 31/12/1979

Within each Category there are three Classes that are based on engine size:

1 – less than 1,300cc

2 – between 1,301cc and 2,000cc

3 – larger than 2,000cc

The regularity runs have assigned average speeds that the crews must travel.  Along the regularity stage there will be a secret control.  At that secret control, the cars are timed to the 1/10 second and assessed 1 point for every 1/10 second deviation from the perfect time based on the distance from the start of the stage and the assigned average speed.

I have been following results of the Datsun 240Z of David Ring and Peter Moss.  They had a promising start and currently lay in position 126 with a score of 22.  Unfortunately for another car whose results I was watching, the Lancia Fulvia 1600 HF of Andrew McAlpine and Fred Gallagher had to withdraw due to mechanical problems.
