I got an email yesterday noting that I was being harsh toward Nani Roma and the author pointed out that the time-of-day arrivals at the checkpoints did not support my rant that Roma should not have passed Al-Attiyah. The actual time of the arrivals yesterday were as follows:
Start: Al-Attiyah 10h16 Roma 10h25
CP1 Al-Attiyah 11h34 Roma 11h43
CP2 Al-Attiyah 11h43 Roma 11h52
CP3 Al-Attiyah 12h11 Roma 12h19
Finish Al-Attiyah 15h04 Roma 15h06
So the data supports that Roma stayed behind Nasser Al-Attiyah all the way, which to my mind is what he should have done. I did over react.
Today’s Stage 10 went from Calama, Chile to Salta in Argentina. The day started out with a 385 kilometer transit that took the competitors across the border into Chile. The Special Stage section was 358 kilometers long to a 116 kilometer transit to Salta.
Stage 10 Route
Today’s route had a great deal of elevation change.
Stage 10 Profile
Today might have been the day that has set Nasser Al-Attiyah up to win the Dakar Rally for 2015. He won the stage and gained 4 and a half minutes on DeVilliers. DeVilliers is running out of stages.
Yesterday’s stage winner, Nani Roma, had a spectacular accident today. I don’t know the details but I understand that his Dakar is over.

Al-Attiyah Is In A Great Position To Win The 2015 Dakar Rally
The following are the standings after Stage 10. With Al-Attiyah’s 28 minute lead over Devilliers it appears that Devilliers can’t win the 2015 Dakar, but Al-Attiyah can still lose it.

Barreda bounced back today with a stage win. He finished about a minute and a half in front of Marc Coma. Coma finished 2 minutes ahead of his nearest rival Goncalves on a Honda, who finished 5th on the stage.

Coma now has a 7 and a half minute lead over Goncalves and I suspect that Coma will be able to manage that lead to the end.
