The 2013 Car Store Rally and Fall Foliage Tour is set for October 5, 2013 in Norwich, Vermont. At this time Steve Levesque and I are planning on competing in this rally, if we can get a car ready in time. We are planning on using Steve’s 1972 Triumph GT6, but there are a few issues to deal with before we are ready to go.
The Car Store Rally and Fall Foliage Tour is headquartered out of The Car Store Subaru, 63 Route 5 South, Norwich, VT. It is located off Exit 13 of I-91. Further information about The Car Store Subaru can be obtained by calling them at (802) 649-1603.
The Car Store Rally and Fall Foliage Tour will be a straightforward Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) road rally of approximately 130 miles. The rally is hosted by the New England Region of the Sports Car Club of America (NER/SCCA). A Tulip format will be used for the route instructions. This rally is well suited for inexperienced as well as veteran rallyists. Both paved and unpaved roads will be used. The rallymaster says that the speeds are reasonable for the conditions; however, some people not used to driving on unpaved surfaces may consider them on the brisk side. However no “car breaker” roads will be used.
The Fall Foliage Tour Jr. GTA Rally will be a GTA rally that will start while the TSD competitors are having their lunch break. The Fall Foliage Tour use the same course as the TSD, but will have contestants answer questions about interesting landmarks found along the route without the GTA competitors concerning themselves about timing issues.
Some of the details of the The Car Store Rally and Fall Foliage Tour Jr. GTA rally are as follows:
Registration: Saturday, October 5, 7:30 AM – 8:45 AM
Novice Q&A / Competitors Meeting: 8:45 AM
The Car Store Rally Start: 9:00 AM plus car number in minutes.
Lunch: A bar-b-que hosted by The Car Store approximately 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. Fall Foliage Tour Jr. GTA starts at 1pm plus car number in minutes.
Finish: The Car Store Subaru, Norwich, VT. Approx. 4:30 PM, awards and prizes to follow as soon as possible afterwards.
To be ready for the rally, the tires on Steve’s Triumph GT6 need to be changed due to size issues with the current tires. The car needs to fitted with a wheel sensor set up to drive a rally computer. At this time, the plan is to fit the car with a Timewise 798A rally computer, which I have recently appeared.
