This week Jaguar introduced a new two seat sports car – the Jaguar Type F, the successor to the last 2-seat Jaguar, the Jaguar XKE. The new Jaguar Type F is not the ground breaking car that the E Type was, but from the photos released by Jaguar, it looks like a terrific car.
The Jaguar Type F Is On Its Way
The Jaguar Type F will come with three available performances levels:
- Type F – with a 3.0 litre supercharged V6 engine producing 340 horsepower. This will have a 0 – 100kph (62mph) in 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 260kph (161mph)
- Type F S – with a 3.0 litre supercharged V6 engine with 380 horsepower. This will have a 0 – 100kph (62mph) in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 275kph (171mph)
- Type F V8 S – with a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 engine with 495 horsepower. This top of the line engine will result in a 0 – 100kph (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 300kph (186mph)
The Jaguar Type F Is Jaguar’s First 2-Seat Sports Car Since the XKE
The Jaguar Type F will come with an 8-speed ‘Quickshift’ automatic transmission with a distinctive Jaguar pop-up central selector and steering wheel paddles will be provided. Apparently, Jaguar is considering a traditional manual transmission, however in my opinion this is unlikely, as the overall marketplace demand for manual transmissions has diminished considerably over the years.
From the Back The Jaguar Type F Is Reminiscent Of The Jaguar XKE
The Jaguar Type F will be a convertible design with an electrically operated Z-fold cloth roof without a tonneau cover. It will be easy to raise and lower the convertible top with only 12 seconds needed to make the change.
The Jaguar Type F Should Be Fun To Drive
I have not seen any hard numbers on the pricing for the Jaguar Type F, but I have seen some reports that the pricing will start in the $70,000 range.
The photos included with this post all came from Jaguar, so I am very interested in seeing this car for myself, as it looks spectacular. Now if I could only figure out a way to get an opportunity drive the new Jaguar Type F.
