This past week details of an upcoming time-speed-distance (TSD) rally in New Hampshire were released. The Big Lap 16 rally will be the 16th running of rally that has become a staple in northeast USA. Last year, this rally was voted “Rally of Year” in the New England Region. The following is based on information has been provided by Scott Beliveau, the Big Lap 16 rallymaster.
Big Lap will be a straight-forward Time-Speed-Distance rally of approximately 130 miles. A tulip diagram format will be used for the route instructions! This rally is well suited for inexperienced as well as veteran rallyists. Big Lap will start in Keene, New Hampshire and wind its way over scenic and historic western New Hampshire back roads and then finish back in Keene. Both paved and unpaved roads are utilized. The rally is hosted by the New England Region of the Sports Car Club of America (NER/SCCA).
The Big Lap will be run in compliance with the 2007 NER-SCCA Rally Regulations (amended 2010). These are available on www.ner.org . I have attached a Word file of the General Instructions, as well as a Word file of the Entry Form for this rally.
Registration: Pre-registration by mail is very helpful but on-site registration will take place on Saturday, June 16, from 7:00AM-8:30AM behind the McDonalds restaurant, 317 Winchester St, Keene, NH. A Novice School will be held at 8:00PM Friday night (6/15) at a location to be determined, so novice entries should keep in contact with Scott via the contact information provided below. This Novice School will only be held by prior arrangement with Scott. I would advise novices to become familiar with the attached General Instructions for this rally.
Lodging: The Days Inn, 3 Ash Brook Rd, Keene, NH 03431 (603) 352-9780 is holding a block of rooms until May 31st at $89 per room. Ask for “Big Lap Rally” room rate. There are also Holiday Inn Express, and Best Western within a mile of the start.
The rally will start in the Applebee’s parking lot at 40 Key Rd, Keene, New Hampshire. The first car will leave at 9:00 AM plus the car number in minutes. Rallyists will be able to purchase their own lunch at one of a variety of establishments in the lunch break at Claremont, New Hampshire. The rally will finish back in Keene at approximately 4:00 PM, with the award presentation held as soon as possible after the finish.
The rally will have at least three competitive classes: A= Equipped, S = Stock, and N = Novice. Also, a “Dirty Impreza” class will be included if 5 or more teams pre-register in the DI class. Check that class as well as the regular class if you’re running a Dirty Impreza.
For additional information please call the Rallymaster: Scott Beliveau at 603-455-2791 and you can e-mail questions to firstname.lastname@example.org
I will be competing in this rally as the navigator for Steve Levesque. Steve and I have been talking about competing in a TSD rally for sometime. We have competed together in several stage rallies in his BMW M3. Our last event together was Rally Tennessee in 2010. I believe that Steve has only competed in one TSD rally before, so this will be somewhat of a learning experience for Steve.

I look forward to rallying with Steve again and to take part in the Big Lap 16. Hope to see you there!
