2012 Alcan 5000 Rally Day 3 Update

Yesterday was Day 3 of the 2012 Alcan 5000 Rally.  I got a brief report from Bob Vogel that indicates the 2012 Alcan 5000 Rally is indeed a winter rally.  Following is the message that I got from Bob:

We made it to Whitehorse today, a transit day.
All of yesterdays sections were cancelled due to extremely treacherous weather leading to off road excursions by Alcan checkpoint worker and a non-Alcan  fatal accident closing the highway leading to the second TSD of the day.  The ice slalom was cancelled earlier because the snow was too deep for the road grader to create the course.

Yesterday, the competitors were at Mile 1635 of the rally, therefore much of the rally is still ahead of them.  While here in the northeast we have had an essentially snow-free winter, it seems like the Alcan 5000 competitors are experiencing lots of snow and real winter conditions.

Today the competitors will be heading to Dawson City in the Yukon Territories.
