At the New England Auto Show in Boston I got a chance to take a look at the new 2012 Hyundai Veloster. This is yet another Hyundai that is beginning to elbow its way to the front of the styling line.
2012 Hyundai Veloster
Hyundai describes the Veloster as expressive, bold, and unconventional. I agree. The car is expressive with some interesting design lines. The design is bold as demonstrated by the optional 18-inch alloy wheels with painted inserts shod with P215/40R tires. The unconvential nature of the design is demonstrated by the unusual 3-door arrangement.
I Like the Side-View Look of the Veloster. Note the Painted Inserts on the Wheels
The Veloster is powered by a 1.6 litre direct injection 4-cylinder engine that delivers 138 horsepower. I found it interesting that while I picked up full line product brochure from Hyundai, they did not include the horsepower rating of the Veloster engine in the brochure. Have we really arrived at the time when knowing about miles per gallon and 450-watt audio systems is more important than horsepower?
The Three-Door Design of the Veloster Stands Out From the Crowd
The 2012 Hyundai Veloster comes with front wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission. The Veloster will reported travel 28 miles per gallon in the city and 40 miles per gallon on the highway so it is hardly a gas guzzler. Yet with the 138 horsepower engine the Veloster should have performance that won’t feel like a gas sipper.
I like the Design Treatment of the Exhaust
The base Veloster will be priced around $17,300 which makes it a very attractive car for the money.
I Think That the Veloster Will Be A Success For Hyundai
Overall, I am impressed with the 2012 Hyundai Veloster, although I have not been in one on the road. If you are looking for a new car, then check out the 2012 Hyundai Veloster.
