Rallye des Neiges on January 28, 2012

Next weekend, January 28, 2012, the Sport Motor Car Club of Montreal will host the Rallye des Neiges in the Bromont, Quebec.  The Rallye des Neiges is a long running as this year will be the 75th Anniverary of the first running of this event in 1937.  In fact, the Rallye des Neiges was Canada’s first car rally!

The Rallye des Neiges will also be the second rally in the 2012 WINTR Series.  This is a fairly brisk winter rally in and around the Bromont ski area of the Eastern Townships of Quebec.  The rally starts in the early evening and will end around midnight.

While the Rallye des Neiges is held in Quebec, the rally is conducted in both the French and English language.  I competed in this rally last winter and had no language issues.  For details of the Rallye des Neiges check out the web site of the Sport Motor Car Club of Montreal.  There is a lot of information on the site about the rally.  In addition, there is a great video of film of the 1961 running of this rally.  The video is well worth seeing.

It looks like I will again be competing in the Rallye des Neiges this year and I hope that there is a good turn out for this very interesting rally.  See you there!!

I have said it before and I will say it again… the RdN events run in the 1960’s and 1970’s were my favorite rallies of all time, and on those events I would only navigate them; the navigational fun and challenge of the OLD WAY the event was designed was fantastic. Bonne Chance to anyone who is going to be lucky enough to enter or work that rally this year. Granted the navigational style of old is gone, but I love the roads, the people, and the challenge up there. Take care on the 28th! Cheers, Walt Kammer, Rally Old Timer (in the Still Breathing Category)
