The entry lists for the 2012 Dakar have been revealed and there are some significant changes from the recent years. Most noticeable to me is that the Volkswagen Team is not entered this year, but you can’t help but notice the huge presence of MINIs on the 2012 Dakar entry list. MINI has some great drivers as well, with Dakar veterans Stephane Peterhansel and Nani Roma among the drivers.
MINI Will Have Big Presence at the 2012 Dakar
Ginel De Villiers will be driving a Toyota this year. I expect him to do well.
Robby Gordon will be back with his Hummer. There is no fast service Hummer in the field this year, so Robby will be on his own. Perhaps this is because he had a fast service entry last year and because of a communication issue the fast service entry was not able to help Robby. Robby Gordon will be a force in the rally and I hope that he has much better luck this year than he had in the past.
There is one Canadian entry of David Bensadoun in a Desert Warrior.

The entry list for the motorcycles has some North American entries, two of whom have a chance of strong finishes – Jonah Street and Quinn Cody. The American entries are as follows:
Jonah Street – Yamaha
Quinn Cody – Honda
James Embro – KTM
Ned Suesse – KTM
Bill Conger – Husqvarna
There is one Canadian entry in the motorcycle class – Don Hatton on a Yamaha.
