A couple of months ago I posted a story on this website noting that no Americans had entered the 2012 Trans Am Rally. The Trans Am Rally will start in New York City and end in Alaska. This type of rally is more commonly held in Asia or Africa. The Trans Am Rally presents an unique opportunity for Americans to participate in these endurance type rallies that are more commonly held overseas.
The entry list for the Trans Am Rally was updated on October 25, 2011 and now there are two fully American entries. The two teams are the father and son team of Jonathan and Jake Auerbach and the team of Stan Post/Brant Parsons.
The Auerbach team will be driving a 1951 Chrysler in the 2012 Trans Am Rally. This is a car that was originally built to compete in La Carrera Panamericana. Their car is shown below.

The Auerback Team is a very experienced rally team. I have been in a couple of rallies with them including the Penn-York Rally in 2009. In that rally, they were competing in a magnificent Mercedes-Benz 300D cabriolet.

Getting back to the 1951 Chrysler, this was a significant performer of that era. In 1951 Chrysler first introduced their Hemi engine. This first Chrysler hemi engine had a displacement of 331 cubic inches and produced a reported 180 horsepower. This compares to the 160 horsepower produced by the Cadillac V8 engine of the same size. A 1951 Chrysler with the hemi engine won the Stock Class in the 1951 La Carrera Panamericana. So I think that the Auerbach Team has chosen well for the 2012 Trans Am Rally.

The other Trans Am Rally American team of Stan Gold/Brant Parsons will be driving a 1965 Porsche 911. From what I have been able to determine, Stan Gold is a genuine Porsche enthusiast. I believe that this is the same Stan Gold whose cars and garage are featured in the book “Ultimate Garages”.
I also noted that the Stan Gold/Brant Parsons team are also entered in the 2013 Peking to Paris Rally, so they are a hardcore rally team.
There is a third quasi-American team in the 2012 Trans Am Rally with American driver Hans Middelberg along with a Danish navigator, Jurgen Grolman. They will be in a 1967 Ford Mustang convertible. At this time, I don’t have any other information about this team.
I hope that as time goes by additional North American entries show up in this rally. The Trans Am Rally should be a great rally and I would love to be a navigator in this rally. See my June 8, 2011 post on this website for further information on the 2012 Trans Am Rally.
