On November 5, 2011 the 45th running of the Covered Bridge Rally will be held in Killington,Vermont. This is one of the best rallies in the Northeast United States. For this rally, I will be navigating for Hal Denham and we both look forward to taking part in the rally.
The following description of the rally is taken from the flyer prepared by the rallymaster for each of the previous 44 runnings of this rally, Ted Goddard. And Ted will be the rallymaster for this rally once again this year.
EVENT: 2011 will be the 45th running of the TSD Covered Bridge RoadRally throughout the day on Saturday, 5 November. Saturday afternoon concurrent with the TSD will be the CBJR. Brought to you by and sanctioned by New England Region, Sports Car Club of America (NER, SCCA).
The Covered Bridge Rally is a non-trap, straightforward rally; the NEDiv Championship; and the New England Rally Championship. The Rally will use an instruction format that is designed for beginners, yet challenging to experts. The Rally will travel considerable unpaved back roads [50%+/- of the ~ 160 miles], none of which are car breakers. Some of these roads may not be suitable for all vehicles. The speeds are reasonable for the conditions; however, some people not used to driving on unpaved surfaces may consider them to be on the brisk side.
Others who have much experience on unpaved surfaces may consider them to be on the slow side. The Rally will use both manned and unmanned controls.
The Covered Bridge Rally will cover a spread out area of Rutland & Windsor Counties, Vermont in search of interesting back roads that do not dead end or turn into goat paths. The Covered Bridge Rally will also search for Covered Bridges that are still open to vehicle traffic, no longer easy. In general Covered Bridge Rally AM Section will stay within a box defined by Vermont Route US 4 on the South; Vermont Route 100 on the North; Vermont Route 107 on the North; and Vermont Route 12 on the East.
Covered Bridge Rally PM Section was planned to swing South, West, & North around Rutland, VT in search of the many covered bridges in the area.
Then along came IRENE to modify the planned route. Vermont Routes US 4; 100; 107; 12; & US 7 were washed out in many places. Add the unknown number of secondary back roads washed out and where Covered Bridge Rally Modified by IRENE will go at this time is a guess. There will be a COVERED BRIDGE RALLY!
CBJR is a shorter version of the Covered Bridge Rally using only the afternoon section [~50miles]. CBJR will start after the regular competitors. CBJR will be a single class event with Class S and Class D combined. No Class A cars or dual entries permitted.
