Early this week, the May 2011 issue of Hemming’s Sports & Exotic Car arrived at my house. A brief article that caught my eye noted that this year the Vintage Sports Car Club of America (VSCCA) will be holding the Springfield Vintage Grand Prix on July 22 – 24, 2011. I had mentioned that this event might be held several months ago in my General BS and I’m glad that it looks like it will happen.

The Springfield Vintage Grand Prix will be held on a 1.6-mile course through downtown Springfield, MA. I am very biased towards this event because it will be held not very far from where I live.

The event is not without controversy, as this will be a breakaway event from the Pittsburgh Grand Prix which will be held on the same weekend. From years the Vintage Sports Car Club of America has been holding their races as part of the Vintage Grand Prix weekend in Pittsburgh. Apparently the Pittsburgh organizers want to expand their event by admitting cars that would not be eligible under the Vintage Sports Car Club of America rules. Now the two events will be schedule head-to-head on the same weekend.
July will be a very interesting month for me and others in the New England area. On the weekend of July 16, the New England Forest Rally will be held. I will be heading up a stage crew at that event. On the weekend of July 23, I will be attending the Springfield Vintage Grand Prix. On the weekend of July 30, Hal Denham and I will be the rallymasters for a new rally that will be held in central Massachusetts. I will be posting more on our rally later, but we are planning to make it a very interesting and challenging rally. So July will be a very interesting and enjoyable month in the New England area.
